MEET THE PEOPLE WE SERVE IN CAMEROON

Cameroon’s economy is rooted largely in agriculture and oil, leaving it at the mercy of global market prices. With rampant poverty, 37% of the population, Cameroon struggles with a low literacy rate and short life expectancy. It is a secular state that allows for religious freedom, and about 70% of the country is at least nominally Christian. The political power is concentrated in the executive branch and widespread corruption has scourged the country.

LEARN ABOUT OUR MISSION IN CAMEROON

CICM missionaries in Cameroon work to establish and animate Christian communities, by regularly offering the sacraments and showing the importance of daily prayer. They strive to make their churches a visible presence in the community. The missionaries take part in the people's development and human promotion, in their will to take their own responsibility, and in their struggle against all forms of injustice and oppression. They likewise build up these areas by aiding in the education of young people, offering help in reading, writing, and computer skills — and for the latter, providing technological resources necessary for learning.

READ STORIES FROM THE MISSION FIELD

This blog post describes the work for education in a small city called Gadja. Many of the young people in the region have no computer experience despite having a secondary school in the city. The primary focus of this mission is to provide socio-educational resources for the young people in the parish. However, pastoral care is always emphasized when working with the residents of Gadji and the missionaries are bringing Christian community where peace and hope are prominent.
