A parent can want nothing more for their child than for them to be healthy, happy, and safe. Every good parent strives to secure these things for their sons and daughters, to allow them to grow up with great vulnerability, curiosity, and wonder.
But what about the children who, because of poverty, abuse, or neglect, are forced to grow up too soon? Who, because of their life circumstances, have not experienced unconditional love and protection?
These are the children that the MercyWorks missionaries in the Philippines are most concerned with. We hope this guide provides you with a quick overview of the struggles of millions of Filipino children, and how you can bring the love of Jesus Christ to them through your support.
The Sunflower Center is a professional ministry based in Baguio City focused on therapeutic healing and psychosocial support for children who have been abused or neglected. We work alongside governmental centers and other non-profit organizations to restore children to families and heal the wounds that keep them from thriving.
Here are just a few of our projects at the Sunflower Center:
We want to offer therapeutic intervention that helps children live happy, healthy lives after trauma.
We want to train families and other social workers to help children cope with difficult circumstances.
We want to continue building our care-giving capacity at the Center in order to be able to serve more children in need.
As the patron saint of babies, children, and youth, St. Philomena intercedes on behalf of some of the most vulnerable members of society. Join us in praying for these precious lives.
