Help us Build
St. Charles School
in Malawi

Imagine — the first several hours of the early morning spent traveling on foot, over dirty roads, only to arrive at school too exhausted to focus.

This is the daily reality for many of the young people of Chisankhwa, Malawi.

When the burden of walking to school becomes too great, children drop out, and — in the worst cases — are entrapped in a cycle of forced child labor.

Thankfully, there's a simple solution. MercyWorks is building a school right in their own community.

Phase II: Building Teacher Residences

During phase I of the project, St. Charles Primary School constructed two buildings, which house four classrooms, four storerooms, and two administrative offices.

We’re now in phase II of the project — constructing residences for our future teachers, then building restrooms for our students, and finally hiring those teachers. In its entirety, phase II will cost $12,950. If we want to open the doors to St. Charles in September 2023, we need to raise these funds as soon as possible.

Help us complete phase II — there is ONLY $4,861 left to go.

You can help us stay on track with our September 2023 timeline and bring a community school to the children of Malawi. Thank you for supporting our students!

About St. Charles

St. Charles Primary School is currently under construction, on track to open in September 2023. When opened, the school will serve 300+ students in grades 1-6.

But, what is so critical about this school?

The next closest school is hours away by foot for many of our children. This leads to high drop-out rates and increased instances of forced child labor — all because there isn't a school close by.

Building a school in our community will make high-quality education accessible to these children, especially young girls.

Education is more than a basic human necessity. Especially here, and in other communities entrenched in extreme poverty, education can be the opportunity that pulls children out of their circumstances and allows them to thrive.
