The Final Building Phase for St. Charles School

In September 2023, just two years shy of breaking ground, St. Charles Primary School opened its doors to 171 eager, smiling faces in grades 1-4 for their first day of school.

For many - this was their first ever day of school, as education had always been inaccessible to them because of distance or money.

We must now complete the remaining school buildings so students from grades 5-8 can start at St. Charles. Once funded, phase III (part one) will take 6 months to construct.

These students are at the highest risk for early marriage and forced labor, and they are so eager to join the others at school.

Please help us finish construction at St. Charles—donate today!

Phase III: The Final Classrooms and Buildings

During phase I of the project, St. Charles constructed two buildings, which house a total of four classrooms, four storerooms, and two administrative offices.

In phase II, four teacher residences were built, along with bathrooms and a kitchen for the school to use. Additionally, 150 desks were purchased and teachers were hired to start school.

We're now in the third and final phase of the building project. Because of the size of this phase, it has been divided into two parts to prioritize the greatest needs first.

The first priority is to build four more classrooms for grades 5-8, a staffroom, and a study room for learners. Part two of phase III will consist of building the remaining two units needed to house our teachers.

In total, construction for phase III (part one) will cost $93,930. Our goal is to fundraise $10,000—a small portion of the overall goal.

About St. Charles

St. Charles Primary School, in Chisankhwa, Malawi, opened its doors in September 2023 to 171 students in grades 1-4.

When fully constructed, it will provide a robust and faith-filled education to more than 300+ learners in grades 1-8.

But, what is so critical about this school?

Imagine — the first several hours of the early morning spent traveling on foot, over dirty roads, only to arrive at school too exhausted to focus.

Until now, this is the daily reality for many of the young people of Chisankhwa.

When the burden of walking to school becomes too great, children drop out, and — in the worst cases — are entrapped in a cycle of forced child labor.

Thankfully, there's a simple solution. We're building a school right in their own community, and we need your help.

Building a school in the community will make high-quality education accessible to these children, especially young girls.

Education is more than a basic human necessity. Especially here, and in other communities entrenched in extreme poverty, education can be the opportunity that pulls children out of their circumstances and allows them to thrive.
