The Dominican Republic
Life in The Dominican Republic often involves struggling for basic human necessities such as food, clean water, education and health care. Through education, donations and collaboration with local churches, Missionhurst strives to provide socio-economic relief and health care within The Dominican Republic. Training the people of The Dominican Republic in developmental programs like farming also helps to equip young people with employment as well as a means to support themselves.

In a recent Missionhurst magazine article, Fr. Paul Mbuyi Kasonga highlights the abject poverty rampant throughout The Dominican Republic. Kasonga specifically focuses his account on the Haitian migrant sugarcane workers and his attempt to bring about community collaboration and social change through Evangelization. Life among these impoverished sugarcane workers is rampant with abject violence, but the formation of an organization by 52 missionaries and residents helped to bring some social harmony to the impoverished labor workers and their families.
